Brew Diligence Day Six: Happy Hour!

Welcome to Brew Diligence, our at-home coffee education series.

One thing we love almost as much as coffee is COCKTAILS. Lucky us, our Sales Rep, Sam, has a background in mixology. Sam recommends the recipe below, and Carrie from our Marketing Team made it using her own, um, rudimentary materials.

Sam’s Espresso Martini

1.5 oz Vodka

Carrie Says: Sam did not specify a brand here, but did note that a flavored vodka, like Vanilla Stoli, would be good too. Lucky for me, I found a bottle of Vanilla Vodka collecting dust on my bar. Off to a strong start!

1 oz REDLINE Espresso 

Carrie Says: Like many of you, I do not have an espresso machine at home, and as Sam emphasized “nothing really replaces espresso in this cocktail.” However, I’m scrappy, so I did my best with an Aeropress. See directions below for my method. An espresso shot it is not, but for a quarantini, it did the trick.


Redline’s creamy, fruity notes worked great here, making my martini the perfect after-dinner dessert sipper. For a bolder, smokier drink, try Spice Island or French Roast!

0.5 oz coffee liqueur  

Carrie Says: Sam recommends St. George’s NOLA Coffee Liqueur if you can find it. It’s drier and more complex than your average coffee liqueur. I opted for the bottle of Kahlua collecting dust next to my vanilla vodka.

Carrie hasn’t been leaving the house much

DIRECTIONS:

1. Pull your espresso shot. If using an Aeropress, follow our Aeropress Home Brew Instructions, using approximately a 1:3 coffee-to-water ratio. The whole brew should take about 30 seconds.

If you make this drink with a regular brewed ounce of coffee, just know that it will have a thinner body and flavor than it would with a shot of espresso. On the flip side, it’s also going to be coffee with a bunch of booze in it, which, though not ideal, definitely does not suck!

2. Combine all ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker and give it a good shake. Strain into a martini glass.

3. Enjoy!
