Metropolis is a fifteen-year-old, small batch, artisan coffee roaster, retailer, and wholesaler. Our mission is to make a positive difference in people’s lives through coffee. Our café presents Metropolis to the world. The goal of our café team is to provide an unparalleled quality coffee experience, and to serve as a benchmark for our entire wholesale family of cafes. A barista at Metropolis does much more than craft the best drinks you’ve ever tasted.  As a face of Metropolis each is responsible for maintaining Metropolis’ high standards of customer service and product quality. .  They do this by skillfully handling all aspects of the job (from cleaning and stocking to making excellent drinks and making customers feel at home).  This position pay starts at $11/hour plus tips

 

Attitude

-Create a warm and welcoming environment for customers and co-workers.

-Demonstrate work ethic by making excellent drinks and working hard throughout your shift.

-Be punctual, energetic, and reliable.

-Perform delegated tasks (e.g. chore list items) in a timely manner.

-Clearly separate friendship from job responsibilities.

 

Customer Experience

-Uphold high expectations for customer service and model excellent service at all times.

-Greet customers within three seconds of their arrival.

-Display passion and enthusiasm for Metropolis.

-Be proactive about helping customers with beans, retail, or tea.

-Learn and communicate knowledge of coffee and tea to customers.

-Keep a ‘customer view’ of Metropolis and notice what they notice (e.g. messes, spills, long lines).

-Remember…you ARE the face of Metropolis Coffee. 

 

Drink Preparation and Bar Work

-Maintain a clean work space behind the counter.

-Pay attention to quality and proactively discard and remake any bad drinks.

-Cheerfully remake drinks if customer complains about quality.

-After bar training, practice and master free pour latte art.

 

Store Appearance and Function

This includes both front and back of house maintenance.

-Keep health code in mind at all time.

-Focus on keeping store clean and orderly (e.g. cleaning, bussing, stocking, vacuuming, cleaning entryway, sweeping, and tidying the bathroom).

-Proactively, find work to do during slow periods.

-Complete assigned tasks by end of shift.

 

Finances

-Keep control over assigned drawer.  Make sure that any money added or removed is documented. 

-Keep drawer orderly (e.g. face bills, let shift leader know if drawer is becoming full needs to be thinned, do not open rolls of coins unless necessary).

 

Flexibility

-Maintain your sense of humor and roll with the punches.

-Be prepared to take a leadership role during special projects. 

-Finally, so that everyone can enjoy time off, expect to cover for each other when needed.  


 

This is a full time position requiring a flexible schedule. Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a base hourly wage, plus tips, paid time off, and partially-subsidized medical, dental, and vision insurance.
