About the Producer: Jorge Nicolas is a fourth generation coffee farmer and his origins in coffee date back to the 60s. When his great-grandfather bought part of the land to plant coffee and left an inheritance. Since he was a child Jorge's parents instilled in him the love for coffee and by the year 2008 he began to produce coffee on his own with the land he inherited. The Villalideros farm was previously land used for grazing cattle. Before being planted with coffee, they also planted potatoes, giving good results in production, however the poor access to the market, made it not a sustainable crop, so the land entered a period of rest. Previously, it was thought that they couldn’t grow coffee on the farm due to the high altitudes, but in 2014, they began to experiment. This was the beginning of what is now one of the model farms, which is used by IHCAFE to train other coffee growers and show them that good management practices result in coffee farms with excellent production and contribute to combating climate change.
